Digital and paper

All phases in the FUP publishing process revolve around digital technology and exploitation of the web. All publications are initially created in electronic format, and the primary distribution channel is internet.

The certification as authentic publications for all scientific and academic effects and purposes is guaranteed by the voluntary legal deposit of a non-modifiable electronic version at the National Central Library of Florence (BNCF).

The conditions of access to the digital edition (in PDF format) are established for each work by agreement with the authors, seeking to balance the principles of Open Access with protection of the rights and the work of the authors. More specifically, the strategies proposed by FUP are as follows:

• Free preview of all the sections of the work - in read-only access - with the possibility of printing the presentation, preface or introduction, thus providing an overview of the contents.

• Download free or on payment of the electronic version both of the entire work and of the individual sections.

• In the agreements for the management of copyright, FUP allows its authors to distribute an electronic version of their works in non-commercial open institutional, and/or disciplinary archives.

Finally, the digital publications can be assigned temporary access keys which enable all forms of use that do not conflict with copyright regulations.

The electronic edition may then be followed by a paper version, produced by exploiting digital technologies that enable the print run to be tailored to the actual market or educational demands, with considerable savings on publishing costs.
