Firenze University Press (FUP) is the the publishing house of the University of Florence, and its aim is to disseminate the most advanced results of academic research. It is a leading actor in the production, circulation and conservation of academic knowledge, engaged in dynamic dialogue with the international academic community and the cultural institutions that deal with the expansion and conservation of knowledge.
The Firenze University Press catalogue covers a wide range of academic subjects, with special focus on research monographs and university and postgraduate textbooks.
FUP offers an innovative blend of consolidated traditional paper publishing and the new opportunities offered by digital resources. All the texts in the FUP catalogue are published in both paper and digital editions, exploiting to the full the synergies offered by the new digital technologies.
For each FUP publication a plan of promotion and distribution is drawn up for the paper and electronic editions, both in open access mode and on payment. This plan fuses traditional paper distribution channels at national and international level in bookshops and libraries with new tools offered by the numerous entities active in the sphere of digital promotion and distribution.
The use of digital technologies in the various phases of the life cycle of a publication, and a balanced combination of paper and digital distribution, enables FUP to optimise the crucial ratio between print-run and availability, thus reducing production costs and enhancing distribution of the top results of academic research. In other words, FUP offers a service tailored to each individual publication, making it possible to contain costs without impairing the quality of the end product.
More specifically, the web and digital technologies are well suited to the circulation of journals. The scientific periodicals rapidly reach their readers, offering swift access to the latest information by cutting down the preparation and distribution times required by paper versions. In addition to a web environment devoted to each journal, FUP also deals with admin, subscriptions and rights management, ensuring a dovetailed service of enhancement for all aspects of the periodical.
