An accurate definition of memory would embarrass any serious scholar. Briefly, memory could be defined as a wonderful mechanism, a way to transport us back in time. Memory is therefore a mental activity that binds us over time, it is what gives meaning to the existence. Self-narration or autobiography means first of all asking oneself about the status of one's own identity, it means communication, communicating to ourselves and to others who we are; it means transforming the interior monologue into dialogue with otherness; it means marking and regulating our emotions through the representation of the events of our life.

Leonardo Trisciuzzi is Full Professor of Methodology and Didactics. He is Adjunct Professor of Special Pedagogy at the University of Florence. He has numerous publications to his credit; among the most recent ones: Elogio dell'educazione (1995); Manuale di didattica in classe (1999); Manuale di didattica per l'handicap (2000); Dizionario di didattica (2001); La Pedagogia clinica (2003); Introduzione alla Pedagogia speciale (2003, with C. Fratini e M.A. Galanti); La formazione del sé. Itinerari psicopedagogici (2004, with C. Billi). Tamara Zappaterra, PhD in "Quality of Education", is Professor of Special Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education of the University of Florence. She deals with issues related to disability and school integration. She has published Braille e gli altri. Percorsi storici di didattica speciale (2003); La psicomotricità tra biologia e didattica (2004, with L. Trisciuzzi). Barbara Sandrucci is a Researcher of General Pedagogy at the Faculty of Education of the University of Florence. She deals with Pedagogy in general and has some publications to her credit, including: Aufklärung al femminile. L'autocoscienza come pratica politica e formativa, ETS, Pisa, 2004.
